PETER O’DONNELL HAS NO fears for Jason Quigley as the Donegal middleweight heads into a history-making night in Las Vegas.
Quigley will become the first Irish boxer to fight at the 20,000-capacity T-Mobile Arena in Vegas tonight when he comes up against Mexican James de La Rosa in one of the support bouts to the eagerly-awaited Canelo-Khan match up.
[adrotate group=”57″]Donegal Boxing Board President O’Donnell from Raphoe is a long-time friend and follower of Quigley and has traveled to Sin City for the big bout.
“His undefeated record won’t be blemished. He’s really up for this,” O’Donnell told Donegal Sport Hub.
“If he can keep the winning streak intact it’ll be great, but knowing Jason, he’ll come through.
“He’s had a very good training camp. He had 160 rounds with the likes of Matthew Macklin. Jason is really up for it. Hopefully he can get a few rounds of boxing in, too. He’s had too many stoppages.”
A huge crowd has converged on Vegas, with the prime focus on the Canelo-Khan fight, but a slice of the action on this bumper card goes to Quigley.
And O’Donnell believes this to be a big chance for the former Finn Valley ABC middleweight in more ways than one.
He said: “This is a real step up in class. He’s in with good opposition. De La Rosa is a tough man, as all Mexicans are.
“It will be fantastic exposure. He has a lot of support out here and he’ll win over a lot of English fans when they see him in action. They have all great time for Jason because of what he did as an amateur.”
