IRISH ATHLETICS TEAM MANAGER Patsy McGonagle says Mark English could make the 800m final at this summer’s Olympics in Rio.
English has started his season in fine form and tomorrow will compete in the National Indoor Championships in Athlone, where he can be expected to win a fourth title in a row.
English may also take part in the World Indoors next month in Oregon.
“Mark is showing great indoor form,” McGonagle told Donegal Sport Hub at the RunDonegal Women’s 5k launch.
“He’s been persuaded to run in the National Indoors this weekend and he may go to the World Indoors. It’s his call really, but it’s all about Rio.
“He has to be thinking about a medal at the European Championships.
“Mark English has potential to make an Olympic final. To make an Olympic final would be a massive, massive achievement.”
