PATSY MCGONAGLE, Finn Valley AC Chairman, has told of the success of the schools cross country events held over the last two days at the Stranorlar Club.
570 children were in attendance for the Secondary Schools event this morning with over 800 participating in the Primary Schools competitions yesterday.
“It’s well established now, 15 years on the run and people have become very aware of it,” McGonagle said of the Secondary Schools Cross Country.
“Teachers find this a good settling-in event and it works very well. It gets the cross-country season underway without any great pressure.
“It’s a come and try it job. They’re from all backrgounds.
“The primary schools thing is really well established and has been going for 45 years now since it started in MacCumhaill Park.
“It used to be on a Sunday but we moved it to a school day because this is a school curriculum subject as much as anything.”
Children from Derry, Tyrone and Sligo schools wee also in attenance at the annual events.
