A PENALTY 20 minutes from time from Gary McCabe proved to be the difference as Shamrock Rovers earned a slender win at Finn Harps.
McCabe’s spot kick was perfectly placed past Richard Brush after the Finn Harps goalkeeper had fouled Danny North to condemn the Ballybofey side to their first home outing of the season.
The award rankled the home support who felt that Simon Madden had been given a chance too many by match referee Neil Doyle following a first half yellow card. However, Harps manager Ollie Horgan wasn’t going to complain about the fact the visitors weren’t reduced to 10 men and instead wanted to focus on his own team’s performance.
“We gave it everything we had,” Horgan said. “As we always do. There was very little in it. It might be a different case in Tallaght.
“I’m not complaining about anyone not getting sent off on the other side; that’s not what I do. I complain about enough but for not sending Simon Madden off, I’m not going down that line.”
