NIALL O’DONNELL WAS joint-captain of Donegal in their Ulster MFC success yesterday against Derry.
The St Eunan’s forward suffered the disappointment of losing to Derry in last year’s Ulster semi-final and then was on the losing side as his club went down in the Ulster Minor Club Championship tournament at St. Paul’s in Belfast on New Year’s Day.

However, yesterday there were smiles from O’Donnell, who shares the captaincy duties for Shaun Paul Barrett’s side with Jason McGee from Cloughaneely, as Donegal ran out 2-10 to 1-11 winners.
“It took us a while to get settled,” O’Donnell said. “We got settled then and that settled. It’s like a family. It’s great to be involved as a team.”
[adrotate group=”38″]“Derry went four points up but the team has great character. We just did things simple. Derry were always in the game and we only won by two. We could see the finish line but thankfully we got over the line.
Donegal will now take on Cork on Saturday week in the All-Ireland quarter-final.
“It is great to win it this year after the disappointment of last year. We were under the radar this year compared to last year. We’ve got an Ulster championship out of it and hopefully we can push it on from here.”
[adrotate group=”76″]“We got to the club Ulster final and lost that but I’ve a medal now to cherish for the rest of my life.”
O’Donnell spoke to Charlie Collins …
