THE DRAWS FOR THE various club championships in Donegal for 2016 have thrown up an array of derbies, dates and duels to whet the appetites for the new club season.
Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure are the new sponsors of all the club championships in the county having agreed a three-year deal with the Donegal County Board, taking them to the end of the 2018 campaign.
It was at Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure in Letterkenny where the balls were picked from the hats and post to determine the groupings with interested spectators gasping in particular at Group B in the Donegal SFC which sees St Eunan’s, St Michael’s, Kilcar and Killybegs pitted together.
For Glenswilly, another of the big hitters, they were almost in that group, but survived by just one pick.
“There’ll be at least one big casualty at the end of the group stage,” said Glenswilly and Donegal midfielder Neil Gallagher, also representing Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure. “You have to be prepared for the first game and it’s definitely going to be interesting.”
Naomh Conaill are the defending champions and club chairman Daniel McGeehin was keeping a tight hold of Dr Maguire, still adorned in the blue and white ribbons tied on the ears on that October Sunday when they overcame St Eunan’s.
McGeehin said: “We will have to be on our toes from the word go. One slip up and you could be gone. This is where the focus is at, the Championship.”
