MICKEY GALLAGHER was buzzing after he played a starring role in Killybegs’ Under-21 B final win over Letterkenny Gaels.
Gallagher, who is just 17, scored 1-5 in the second half as Killybegs took the prize thanks to a 1-12 to 1-9 win at Sean MacCumhaill Park.
“I was just on the end of things,” the modest Gallagher said afterwards.
“The team worked really hard for the scores. I was sleeping a bit in the first half. Hugh had a few words at half-time and we came out on top at the end up.
[adrotate group=”81″]“I had a quick wee spell. The Gaels really put it up to us.
“When we got the goal, they hit back and it put us under pressure.”
Kalvin Holian’s goal really brought Letterkenny Gaels back into a game that looked gone from them, but Killybegs were indebted to Gallagher’s scores, 1-4 of which cmae inside a lethal nine-minute spell.
[adrotate group=”38″]Gallagher said: “It was a very quick turnaround. Hugh had us on the ball. We were in the pool recovering and that showed at the end – we were the fitter team.
“It’s great to bring some silverware back to Killybegs again. Who knows, I mightn’t win another one so we’ll enjoy this one.”
