SHANE BYRNE has been delighted with how his LyIT side bounced back from an opening day defeat by IT Sligo to top their CUFL group.
A 2-1 loss to IT Sligo threatened to derail, but away wins at Tallaght (1-0) and Blanchardstown (2-0) as well as a walkover win against DCU got them back on track.
“For us to top the group is massive. It’s a great incentive now for us,” Byrne told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”80″]“We’ve come back well from the defeat to Sligo. We were on the road to both Tallaght and Blanchardstown.
“They have bounced back well. They want more of what they had last year.”
Delap netted in the 26th minute, but it was the only goal in a game dominated by LyIt, who left their scoring boots behind them.
[adrotate group=”85″]Byrne said: “If we had taken our chances, we’d have won by three or four. They didn’t create too much and we were comfortable one-nil winners. We could have made it easier, but we’re happy enough.
“Our shape was good and we defended well.”
On his match-winner, Byrne added: “Adrian is a superb player. John (Quigg) plays him at right-back and he has played there for us too, but he was brilliant on the wing today.”
