NAOMH CONAILL have won five Donegal Under-21 titles in the last decade and have a new batch of hopefuls looking to get a crack at the crown.
Leo McLoone was part of a Naomh Conaill group that broke the mould around Davy Brennan Memorial Park, winning a senior championship in 2005, before they won their first Under-21 title in 2006.
McLoone (pictured above by Geraldine Diver) is now manager of the Naomh Conaill U-21s and saw his side defeat Four Masters 4-9 to 0-9 last night.
“We have a few good players in front of goal,” McLoone told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”82″]“The boys working out the field to get the ball in was just as good.
“When we got the early goal or two, they were forced to push out on us and couldn’t afford to hold the sweeper there. It left a bit of space in there for Eoghan.”
Donegal minor Eoghan McGettigan hit 2-2 for Naomh Conaill and is clearly a player to watch out for.
[adrotate group=”38″]McLoone said: “Eoghan, on his day, is hard to mark. He showed it there with left and right foot. That’s a big plus.”
On Wednesday night, several of McLoone’s team were involved with the Naomh Conaill minors as they defeated Aodh Ruadh 7-9 to 3-18 in the Southern Minor final in Donegal town.
McLoone said: “We have a lot of minors in the team. A lot of them and how good they are is down to the minor management. A lot of these are at senior and minor level. Everything is coming at the one time with minor, under-21 and senior championship in a week.”
