LAURA GALLAGHER says the Donegal senior ladies have ‘real belief’ in themselves this year.
The Glenswilly woman, a reluctant interviewee just like her brother Neil, was one of the stars yesterday as Donegal began 2017 with a 4-10 to 0-11 win over Armagh in Convoy.
Back in Division 1 this year, Donegal sent out something of a statement with a fine win.
“It’s got to a really professional level and the girls are really rowing in behind,” Gallagher told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”90″]“There is a real belief in the team now. There is belief in the squad and everyone is noticing it.
“We knew from the get-go that we had to be first to every ball. Armagh are always very strong coming down the middle and we had to protect that. The work-rate paid off.
“They had a lot of possession and kept attacking in the first half, but we kept plugging.”
[adrotate group=”46″]While Donegal saw Paula McGrory score two goals and Amber Barrett and Roisin Friel net in the second half, Gallagher had to be on her best form at the other end and her day included a penalty save from Aimee Mackin.
Gallagher said: “I always pick a side and go with it.
“I was glad today to get a big game. I just have to have good hands and be a big player behind the girls.”
