FINN HARPS FACE St Patrick’s Athletic tonight in the SSE Aitricity League Premier Division, kick-off 8pm.
Kevin McHugh was a second half substitute on Friday night at Eamonn Deacy Memorial Park as Ollie Horgan’s team went down to a 1-0 defeat against Galway United.
Harps match the side from the banks of the Corrib for long spells and although they created a few chances themselves, in the end a very well created goal for Vinny Faherty was enough for Galway to take the three points.
“Obviously being biased, aye we deserved a point but taking nothing away from Galway, the goal they got would grace any pitch,” McHugh said. “It was all one-touch football and the ball was in the back of the net then.
“It wasn’t even a mistake – I’d call it half a mistake and the ball was in the back of the net then. When the chances come you really need to take the chance. If we took it, it would’ve been a different game. We know we’re up against so many attacking options and we know when we’re restraining things then you will only get the odd chance on the break.
McHugh believe that if Harps are to garner a healthy points total this season then Ballybofey is the place to do it. From their six outings so far, Harps have picked up just one point on the road – at Sligo Rovers – and at home have beaten Derry City and Longford Town, as well as going down to a single goal defeat against Shamrock Rovers.
“We want to take the game to St Pat’s,” McHugh added. “It’s going to be a huge task. We want to score the goals when the chances come along. Finn Park is that wee bit of difference. It’s the edge and the spark you lose when you’re going down on those bus journeys.
“People are coming here and changing their formation and tactics to suit the pitch. We’ll play our own game. We’re not going to get carried away. We want teams to fear coming to Finn Park.”
