JASON QUIGLEY REFLECTED on a ‘perfect’ night at the office as he recorded his 11th professional win last night.
Quigley stepped up a class, but rose to the occasion with a big statement as he put James de La Rosa to the sword.
Over ten rounds, Quigley claimed the unanimous 100-90 decision from all three judges.
“Everything worked out perfect,” Quigley told Donegal Sport Hub from Las Vegas.
[adrotate group=”57″]“It was the perfect stage, the perfect opponent and it was perfect to go the ten rounds. It was perfect all-round.
“The whole things is a bit of a blur. The whole week has just flown in and it’s a crazy feeling.”
This was Quigley’s first taste of ten rounds and in fact was his first to go beyond four stanzas, but the Ballybofey man kept it simple in the T-Mobile Arena as he answered any questions about his own cabability.
He said: “The jab was working lovely, the back hand was working nice. It worked the whole night through.
[adrotate group=”44″]“I kept him at a distance and he got very frustrated. He was sticking out his tongue, doing all these taunts, but I had to stay focussed. That showed that I got to him and threw him off his game.
“It was great to step up in class, to step up in rounds. I answered a lot of questions tonight, for myself and for people who thought: ‘Quigley is taking a big gamble here’.
[adrotate group=”38″]“We knew that I was ready for the step up. There was no doubt that I could go ten rounds.”
Quigley had a height and reach advantage on the Mexican, with 12 years and 148 rounds behind him in the business.
But it was Quigley who impressed throughout the ten rounds on his way to an big win.
Quigley had a stoppage in sight in the ninth round when he landed a flurry of shots on the Mexican, but the Ballybofey man lost his footing and slipped just when it looked as if he was on the verge.
[adrotate group=”57″]“He started wobbling and he started running around the ring, but I tripped and he got a few seconds to recover,” Quigley said. “I knew I was winning the fight so I didn’t take any chances. I was in control.
“It was a great, great learning experience.”
