THE INISHOWEN LEAGUE got their defence of the Oscar Traynor Cup up and running in rather unconventional fashion.
A 7-4 win over the Sligo-Leitrim League at Maginn Park in Buncrana, though, was enough for three points and manager Diarmuid O’Brien was putting the emphasis primarily on the positive – especially since his team lost the corresponding fixture 12 months ago.
Now, Inishowen have a fixture against their rivals, the Donegal League, to look forward to in three weeks time. Brian Dorrian’s side were impressive winners themselves on Sunday having returned from Cavan-Monaghan with a 5-0 win.
“I told our squad that the most difficult game we played last year was Donegal and this year it will be against Donegal,” O’Brien said. “I know Brian Dorrian has put in a huge effort there and hope his players are reciprocating that. It’ll be extra tough away from home.”
