MICHAEL Canning has made no secret of the fact that his ambition is to recapture the Dr Maguire Cup for Glenswilly.
Victors in 2011 and 2013, Glenswilly – the runners-up last year – sealed a quarter-final berth thanks to a 3-9 to 1-8 win over Malin at Pairc Naomh Columba on Sunday evening.
Neil Gallagher, Oisin Crawford and Darren McGinley (pictured above, courtesy of Geraldine Diver) hit the goals for Canning’s side on a horrendous evening for football.
“It was closer to a lottery than a game of football but we’re delighted to secure a place in the quarter-finals,” Canning told Donegal Sport Hub.
“It means that we can push on a wee bit harder now. That’s done and dusted so we can look further ahead.
“We’ll push on now and look forward to the MacCumhaills game, a game we want to win because we want to get the top spot.”
Canning also paid tribute to the late Finbarr Glackin, the Glenswilly club president who was buried on Sunday afternoon.
