JUNIOR RUSSELL BELIEVES his Glencar Celtic side were beaten fair and square in the final of the Saturday League Cup.
Russell, who is joint-manager with Garvan Grieve, held his hands up in the wake of the 2-1 loss against Bonagee United at Dry Arch Park on Saturday.
Peter McNamee’s goal had given the side from St Patrick’s Park the victory in the 92nd minute.
However, Russell’s Glencar still have an opportunity to salvage something from their season when they face Glenea United on Saturday week in the Voodoo Venue Cup final.
“I’m a football man so fair play to Drumkeen,” Russell said afterwards. “It’s hard to take but Glencar didn’t play well and Drumkeen were the better team. That’s the way it goes.
“We’ve a bit to do yet with Glenea. It’ll be a different Glencar that day. Today we didn’t come to life till we went behind. We’ve a bit of work to do between now and then. The boys are very disappointed in there.
“We went in as favourites as we beat these boys 6-0 in the league. We’ve another cup final. And we’ll try and do something about this cup final.”
