GERARD CALLAGHANÂ and his friend Mickey Russell will take part in the Race Around Ireland, which starts on Sunday.
It’s a five-and-a-half day 2,100km event will be undertaken in relay format, non-stop, and is beginning at Trim, Co Meath. Then, it’s basically anti-clockwise around the country.
“For us, it’s a personal challenge,” Callaghan said. “We’ve been cycling all our lives. It’s a test of endurance, tour mind and your mindset. The course in itself has been designed to wear you down. It’s going to be relentless from the start.”
