AOIFE MCCOLGAN HAD the month of her dreams in May, wining the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 2 title with Donegal and the WFAI Under-18 Inter-League crown with Inishowen Ladies League.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper was a star for both teams and was today presented with the Donegal Sport Hub Sports Person of the Month award, in association with Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure, for May in recognition of her exploits.

Having profited from Laura Gallagher’s injury, McColgan was catapulted onto the big stage for the League final by Michael Naughton, the Donegal manager.
McColgan kept a clean sheet at Parnell Park as Donegal overcame Westmeath 3-17 to 0-13, making a key save from Laura Walsh just before half-time.
The Carndonagh Community School student kept a clean sheet as Inishowen defeated Cork 2-0 in the Inter-League semi-final.
In the final, McColgan saved a penalty from Laura Keeler in normal time as Inishowen drew 1-1 with the Metropolitan Girls League and then saved three times in a gripping penalty shoot-out, won 4-3 by Diarmuid O’Brien’s team.
“It was a hectic one, but you don’t mind it being so busy when you get the recognition after all the hard work,” McColgan said.
