Karl Lacey is Donegal’s most decorated footballer – and the Four Masters man believes the class of 2016 can add more silverware.
Lacey is a four-time GAA All-Star and a former Player of the Year.
Although many of his peers have now retired, Lacey is hoping to play a part this year as Donegal seek to retain their place as one of the main contenders in the summer.
“There is definitely Ulsters and All-Irelands within that team,” Lacey said.
“It’s a transition now, but the quicker we can make it the better.
“I’ll try and be a part of it. There is good young talent there. The talent in Donegal is unbelievable. Donegal is up there and we want to keep Donegal up there.”
Lacey has been dogged by injury in recent years – but is hopeful of returning to the green and gold ‘sooner rather than later’.
Just when he can make an appearance is unclear, however. He said: “I wish I could answer that. I’m really missing it at the moment. They’re trying to hold me back a wee bit.
“I’m coming on well and I’m hoping there’s game time in me in the League. I hope I can get that. I’m easing myself back in. I’m not overdoing it. I want the body to be right and I don’t want to break down.”
Lacey was speaking on Monday at the launch of Donegal’s partnership with Letterkenny Institute of Technology, which will see Donegal Development and Underage teams use the facilities on the campus to prepare.
