DAVY MCLAUGHLIN and his Donegal ladies team are one match away from a first ever Ulster SFC title when they face Monaghan at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones on Sunday, throw-in 3:15pm.
McLaughlin’s team are the first from the county to reach the senior decider since 2012, when they lost to Monaghan. In 2010, Donegal won the Ulster IFC crown on their way to All-Ireland success in the secondary competition.
Donegal have 2010 All-Star Yvonne McMonagle back in the panel this season after the Glenfin conscript returned from Australia. With Termon having won the Tesco Homegrown All-Ireland ladies title last season with victory over Mourneabbey from Cork – a match in which Geraldine McLaughlin scored an excellent 3-8 – ladies football in Donegal has been on the up.
“We know that no-one is going to hand this to us on a plate,” McLaughlin said ahead of the final against Monaghan. “There’s real competition from places. We’ve a headache for places and every girl can go in at a point in time.”
