New Finn Harps signings Ciaran O’Connor and Caolan McAleer are itching to get the new season started.
Harps host Cork City in Ballybofey tonight – pending the passing of a morning pitch inspection at Finn Park – in the opening game of the 2017 season.
O’Connor is on loan from Dundalk until the summer while Omagh native McAleer has signed a one-year deal at the club after spending some time in Scotland.
“I had limited chances at Dundalk, but my plan is to score goals here,” O’Connor said.
“I’m replacing a legend in Kevin McHugh. I want to do well and get back in the squad back at home.”
McAleer knows Harps face a battle to avoid the drop, but said: “It’s going to be a challenge. If you’re good enough to stay in it, you’ll stay in it. The goal is to stay in this League. That’s all we want.”
