RYAN MCKINLEY BLOWS 32 candles out on the cake today, but he rolled the years back with a vintage display as Naomh Colmcille booked their place in a first-ever Donegal IFC final.
McKinley was ear-marked as the man to keep the shackles on Michael Sweeney, Gaeil Fhánada’s wrecking ball of a full-forward and a superb display kept Sweeney at bay.
McKinley, a Finner Camp-based soldier, has been donning the red and white during the bad times as well as the good.
“It’s fantastic for a small parish to get this group of players to the Intermediate final,” he told Donegal Sport Hub after their 3-11 to 1-6 semi-final replay win at O’Donnell Park.
“It was something we aimed for at the start of the year, getting to the final. We said first that we’d try and get.”
Naomh Colmcille roared out of the starting blocks and they manner in which they finished the game was also eye-catching.
“It was our plan to go at them from the start and that paid off,” McKinley said.
“Fitness is definitely there. It’s one serious advantage that we have that we’re all of a high level of fitness.”
