AILEACH FC manager Mickey Barr wants to maintain the standards of last season as they head into the new campaign.
On Friday night, Gavin Doherty’s hat-trick helped Aileach to a 4-0 win over Cockhill Youths in the opening game of the Clubman Shirts League Cup – and they travel to face Carrowmena on Suday.
Aileach (pictured above) missed out on the Jackie Crossan Sports Premier Division title last year when they were beaten by Glengad United in a play-off.
“Success is the club growing.” Barr told Donegal Sport Hub on the expectations for this season.
“Everyone likes to win, but the club going well and having boys come into the senior ranks is what it’s about.
“We want to keep the high standards here.”
Barr, who is assisted by former Finn Harps star Paddy Slevin, has added Ronan Coyle, a former Ulster Senior League winner with Finn Harps, Quigley’s Point Swifts and Kildrum Tigers, to his ranks this season.
On Friday’s win, he said: “The boys did well. We can be better. We’re still a few players out and we don’t have much pre-season work done. We’re using the League Cup as a pre-season.
“We’re building at the minute and this was a good match for us coming in.”
Sunday’s Clubman Shirts League Cup fixtures: Group A – Cockhill Youths v Illies Celtic, Carrowmena v Aileach FC; Group B – Redcastle v Carndonagh, Clonmany v Buncrana; Group C – Dunree v Quigley’s Point Swifts; Group D – Rasheney v Moville, Glengad v Greencastle.
