DIARMUID O’BRIEN had nothing but praise for his Inishowen League side, as their reign as the Oscar Traynor Cup champions was ended by the Leinster Senior League.
The game’s decisive moment arrived as far back as the 13th minute when Brendan McLaughlin was red carded.
“When you go down to ten men for so long it makes it difficult. It curtailed our attacking play, but we defended superbly,” O’Brien told Donegal Sport Hub.

“We were happy to have two banks of four and play at pace on the break. There were too many misplaced passes and miscontrolled touches. It was just one of those days.
“We were always going to be limited as an attacking force after the sending off. They didn’t push on at any stage, until late in the game when they threw an extra man up top.”
Inishowen survived an onslaught at the end of the first half when Leinster piled on the pressure and they had their own moments, too, but couldn’t muster up a breakthrough goal.
O’Brien said: “I felt that we needed to score first to have something to hold onto. Credit to the boys, it was a fantastic effort. They left everything out there. There wasn’t an ounce of energy left.
“We have had a fantastic four years. We’ve been one of the most consistent teams in the competition in that spell.
“Sometimes you get days like this, but you have to take it on the chin and regroup for next year.”
