WHILE it was surely difficult for Ardal McDermott to take positives from a 17-point defeat, the Donegal hurling manager was heartened with his team’s display at O’Donnell Park.
While Donegal are still searching for their first win and could be in a play-off for survival, McDermott remains upbeat.
“We were well wounded, but we knew this division would be hard,” he said.
“We wanted a team performance and although Down put up a big scoreline, the boys showed good spirit.
“It would have been easy to fold, but they didn’t do that. They kept going. That’s something to be very proud of as their manager. We have to learn from that and our standard has to get up to that level.”
