Two goals from Shane McGrath and six points from David McGurrin helped Aodh Ruadh overcome Glenswilly 4-12 to 2-6 in the Under-21A championship preliminary round on Wednesday night in Ballyshannon.
The hosts were always in control early on and popped off five early points before an Oisin Crawford point and Anthony Ward goal got Glenswilly back into the contest. When Caoimhinn Marley netted for Glenswilly again, it was Brendan Walsh’s side who were 2-1 to 0-6 in front.
However, it was Aodh Ruadh who responded excellently to that setback and two goals in as many minutes, though Eddie Lynch and McGrath, made for a half-time score of 2-8 to 2-4.
It was tit for tat in the second half mainly, but McGrath, on 57 minutes, put the issue to bed with his second and Aodh Ruadh’s third before Oisin Rooney emphatically fired in a fourth.
Meanwhile, Naomh Colmcille will advance to the next round of the Under-21B Championship. Naomh Colmcille travelled to Dooey on Wednesday evening for their scheduled game against Na Rossa, but the home side were unable to field a team.
