The son of a Ballybofey man has been named on the Ireland U20 squad for tomorrow’s U20 Six Nations game against England.
Brian Deeney won a European Championship silver medal with the Ireland U-18 Sevens side last year and is named among the replacements for tomorrow’s game at Irish Independent Park (7.15pm).
Deeney, from Wexford, plays with Clontarf and Leinster.
His father, Bernard, is a native of Ballybofey while his mother, Georgina, hails from Wexford.
Deeney’s grandparents, Brian and Celine Deeny, still live at Navenny in Ballybofey and his great-grandfather, Bernard, was a former principal at Knock NS, a role he held for 40 years until 1960, having also taught in Meencarrigach and Owey Island.

Brian Deeny plays at lock and has been making fine progress of late.
The second row scored his first All Ireland League try last month, getting over the line for Clontarf in a win against Young Munster. Also in December, he made his first appearance for Ireland’s U19s.
Were Deeny to make an appearance, it would be his U20 debut.
The game is being shown on RTÉ 2, directly after the Ireland v England Women’s Six Nations clash, which will feature Ballybofey woman Laura Feely.
