THE ACTION in the various divisions of the All-County Football League is nearing a conclusion with things now really starting to take shape ahead of the closing couple of matches.
DIVISION 1
DUNGLOE SECURED their Division 1 status with a huge 3-16 to 1-4 win over St Eunan’s yesterday evening at Rosses Park.
Conor Greene’s goal helped Tony Boyle’s team into an eight-point half-time lead, 1-10 to 1-2, with Oisin Carr netting for the under-strength St Eunan’s.
Ryan Greene came off the bench to bag two goals in the second half.
Adam Neely finished with five points and Noel McBride helped himself to four points as Dungloe won by 18 points, a victory that will keep them away from the play-off position.
Donegal captain Michael Murphy powered Glenswilly to an away win at Ardara as Michael Canning’s team scored a 1-13 to 0-10 win.
Murphy’s first half goal had Glenswilly 1-10 to 0-4 ahead at the break.
At one stage, Glenswilly were 1-6 to 0-1 in front although it took a fine save from Philip O’Donnell to prevent Brendan Boyle goaling for Ardara.
Ardara did mount a comeback but Murphy’s scores had Glenswilly sufficiently in front.
DIVISION 2
GAEIL FHÁNADA got a draw in Ballybofey against Sean MacCumhaills to push Glenfin ever closer to a drop to Division 3.
Indeed, Michael O’Connor’s team could have won the game only for Stephen Mulligan’s late free to earn a draw for MacCumhaills.
MacCumhaills led 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time. Martin O’Reilly fired in the goal after strong work by Nathan Gavigan.
O’Reilly rounded the ‘keeper and slotted home, but with Seamus Friel on form for Gaeil Fhánada it was they who looked likely winners late on – when Mulligan struck.
Glenfin were due to play Naomh Muire, but two serious injuries in the reserve game resulted in the postponement of the senior game at Pairc Tabhoige.
Naomh Muire players Conor White and Bryan Grant
Grant sustained a disclocated shoulder and was released from hospital, but a neck injury and concussion meant that White was kept in Letterkenny General Hospital for overnight observation.
Naomh Muire thanked the medics, ambulance personnel and the Glenfin GAA Club for their assistance.
With Gaeil Fhánada earning a point at MacCumhaills, Glenfin trail them by two points with just two games remaining.
Naomh Columba took a 2-8 to 1-4 win over Killybegs at Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park.
Ryan Gillespie’s goal had Naomh Columba 1-6 to 0-0 ahead at the short whistle. Hugh McFadden broke the Killybegs duck early in the second half, but Michael Maguire netted a second goal for Glen, with Daniel Breslin’s long-range punt flying all the way to the net for a late consolation goal.
DIVISION 3
BURT’S PURSUIT of Milford at the top of Division 3 suffered a near-fatal blow when the Hibernian Park residents lost 1-8 to 0-6 at Aodh Rudh.
A dominant second-half display from Aodh Ruadh saw them pull clear.
The teams were level at 0-3 apiece at half-time.
Aodh Ruahd upped the tempo in part two.
Diarmuid McInerney and Seamus Kane’s point put them in front before the goal arrived. Niall Harley drove deep and fed David Dolan, whose ball across goal was palmed home by Philip Patton.
Red Hughs are making the drop to Division 4 after they lost in a high-scoring game, 3-13 to 2-10, against Buncrana at the Scarvey.
Donal Reid’s team have run out of games and are headed through the trapdoor.
The race to avoid a play-off against Carndonagh – Division 4’s runners-up – is now between Letterkenny Gaels, Downings and Naomh Colmcille, while Milford have one hand on the title and one foot in Division 2.
