MYA ALCORN HELPED the Ireland Under-18 Women’s Sevens side to a fifth-placed finish at the Rugby Europe U-18 Women’s Sevens Championship in Jarocin, Poland.
After losing their last-eight clash with eventual silver medallists England, the Ireland youngsters regrouped to secure a fifth place finish thanks to victories over Czechia (29-10) and Scotland (21-7).
Letterkenny Rugby Club’s Alcorn scored three tries over the weekend.
Fifth place is Ireland’s joint-second best finish in the six-year history of the U-18 European Championship.
The U-18 European Championship forms part of the IRFU Women’s Sevens Development pathway for this crop of exciting player.
Alcorn got a try against Georgia on Saturday in a 52-0 win and also got over the line in the 34-5 triumph against Latvia.
Alcorn’s third try of the weekend came in the 29-10 win over Czechia, while the Termon woman played a key role in the 21-7 win over Scotland that sealed the fifth spot.
On Saturday, Ireland had lost out to Scotland, 24-12.
