TERMON suffered an agonising defeat in the final of the fonaCAB Ulster Minor Club Champions Tournament.
Termon 0-8 Lavey 0-9
Derry champions Lavey proved just too strong for Trevor Alcorn’s gallant Termon.
The sides were level at 0-5 all at half-time, but Lavey had the better of the second half to take the crown.
Ryan McFadden converted a free to put Termon in front and, after two quickfire Lavey scores, Adam McElwaine drew Termon level as he finished off a move that began with a Mark Gallagher turnover.
Three more McFadden frees ensured that Termon were level at the interval, 0-5 apiece.
Lavey had moved 0-5 to 0-3 in front at one stage of the opening half, but Termon stayed right in the hunt.
The Donegal minor champions had overcome Silverbridge, Emyvale and Kilcoo to reach the decider of the tournament run by the Belfast-based St Paul’s club.
They headed for Belfast bidding to become the first Donegal team in 28 years, when Aodh Ruadh were Ulster minor kingpins, to win the title.
Termon had played with the breeze in the first period, but Lavey were quickest to start in part two and they moved in front before Termon net minder Emmett Maguire saved his side with a fine save.
Aaron Reid pulled Termon to within a point midway through the second half.
That, though, was as close as they would come as Lavey stayed ahead for the remainder.
