PAURIC MCKINNEY swept to victory in the men’s race at the Donegal Senior Cross County Championships on Sunday.
The 50-year-old Inishowen AC athlete led home the field in a time of 34:12, just six days after he competed in the Dublin Marathon, where he won the M50 gold, having competed in a marathon in Berlin at the end of September.
“I ran Dublin at my ease and I felt brilliant all through the week,” McKinney told Donegal Sport Hub after his win on Sunday in Stranorlar.
“I was very comfortable. I had more in the tank had I needed it. I knew that the gap wasn’t closing and I extended it a little bit, but I kept a bit in reserve just in case.”
McKinney represented Ireland at the World cross country Championships in 1994 in Budapest, 1996 in South Africa and Belfast in 1999.
He praised his coach, Colin Roberts: “Colin takes the thinking out of it for me. He gives me my programme and I just follow it.”
