NAOMH CONAILL ADVANCED in the all-Donegal against Cloughaneely in the Comórtas Peile na Gaeltacha at CLG Tuar Mhic Eadaigh, Co Mayo, this afternoon.
Naomh Conaill 4-12 Cloughaneely 1-11
The ability of Martin Regan’s side to score goals ultimately proved decisive in their bid to retain the trophy they’ve won in each of the last two seasons.
A goal by Kevin McGettigan on the stroke of half-time put the Glenties based team into a 1-6 to 0-7 lead. Beforehand, there hadn’t been much in it, with Cloughaneely’s scorers coming from an array of sources – Paul Sweeney, Darren Ferry, Darren McGeever, John Fitzgerald, Declan McGarvey and Aidan Doohan – and all from play.
For Naomh Conaill, Dermot Molloy kept them ticking along, with five first half points – three of which came from frees.
In the second half, Molloy would add two more points but three goals were the main reason for Naomh Conaill’s progression as Cloughaneely spurned some of their chances when they came.
Ultan Doherty grabbed one of those on 37 minutes before Ethan O’Donnell wrapped up the win with two goals in the last six minutes. John Fitzergerald, before O’Donnell’s brace, had goaled for Cloughaneely
