GLENCAR CELTIC rose to the top of the Glencar Inn Saturday Division thanks to a comfortable win over Drumbar FC at Flagpole Field.
Glencar Celtic 4 Drumbar FC 0
Michael Molloy and Garvan Grieve, from a penalty, scored twice in the opening 20 minutes while Joe Baker and Kevin Rafferty struck in the last 20 minutes to send the Glencar men to the summit.
Glencar opened the scoring after 13 minutes. Former Donegal Gaelic footballer Rafferty won a Drumbar kick-out in the middle of the park. He fed eddie McLaughlin, whose low cross found Molloy and a cracking finish found the roof of the net from close range.
[adrotate group=”46″]Four minutes later, the lead was doubled and McLaughlin was again at the centre of the move.
He threaded a ball through to Kevin O’Donnell, who was taken down inside the penalty box and the resulting penalty was hammered beyond Michael Drzewiecki by Grieve.
Rafferty was denied by Drzewiecki from 25 yards while Michael Molloy headed just over soon after.
Glencar were in command and could have been further in front. Drumbar (above) did manage a couple of half-chances in the opening half, but Glencar’s 2-0 interval lead was a fair reflection on the play.
On the hour, Baker went close for Glencar, but his free header from six yards was just the wrong side of the post after he connected with Rory Gallagher’s cross.
Gallagher did well moments later to create another opening, but his cross was cut out by Daniel Bennett with Glencar men queuing up inside.
The third goal did arrive on 71 minutes as Baker headed home at the far post having been picked out by Liam Doherty. The substitutes combined superbly to seal the deal.
Just for good measure, Glencar netted a fourth nine minutes from the end, Rafferty’s looping header finding the far corner from a cross by full-back Eamonn Dunne.
The win sees Glencar move above Orchard, who do have a game in hand.
