RAPHOE CAPTAIN Sabrina Barnett hopes that Saturday’s Irish Hockey Trophy win over Cork Church of Ireland will be the catalyst for the Donegal side’s Premier Division survival.
Although they are the basement team in the Ulster Premier Division at the moment, Richard Tinney’s team have a number of their relegation rivals to play – and they remain confident of getting the necessary points to survive what is their first season in the top flight.
“It picks up team morale and gives us somewhere to go from now,” Barnett told Donegal Sport Hub.
It’ll give us a wee lift now It’s great to get the win now going back into the Premier League again.
“The objective now is to train hard and get out to get enough points to keep us up in the Premier League.”
Wendy Bustard, Leanne Patterson and Victoria Wray netted the goals for Raphoe, who let a 2-0 lead slip at one stage.
Barnett said after the win: “It’s just great. The team put in a lot of effort over Christmas. From playing Cork two years ago, we knew they’d be very tough. It’s just brilliant.
“We got a bit sloppy and let them back into the game. It was great to get the winner.”
Wray conjoured up the winner for Raphoe in the 62nd minute and Barnett said: “Vicky is one of our top defenders and she’s key to the short corners. She finished it sweetly and it meant the world to us.”
