DECLAN BONNER’S 26-man Donegal panel for the Dr McKenna Cup campaign has been confirmed.
Donegal senior manager Rory Gallagher is keen for his experienced players to get an extra break from competitive action ahead of the Allianz League and, with up to 16 involved with colleges in January competiton, the Under-21s will fly the flag in the McKenna Cup.
Donegal will have home advantage at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey on Sunday when they take on the Martin McHugh-managed UUJ before a home fixture against Cavan at the same venue a week later.
Then, on Wednesday January 18, it’s a tricky fixture at Healy Park against Ulster champions Tyrone.
Of the 26 named by Bonner, Eoghan Ban Gallagher, Stephen McBrearty and Micheál Carroll have seen Allianz League or Senior Championship action,
Dungloe goalkeeper Danny Rodgers and Red Hughs defender Stephen McMenamin played for Donegal in last year’s McKenna Cup.
Naomh Colmcille duo Michael Lynch and Daniel Clarke as well as Ciaran Gibbons, off the back of a superb season for Donegal SFC winners Glenswilly, are included having not yet featured competitively in the county jersey at minor, Under-21 or senior levels.
