THERE WAS a new look about Jason Quigley last night as he destroyed ‘The Destroyer’, Jorgé Melendez.
Puerto Rican Melendez arrived at The Forum in Inglewood with a decent 30-7-1 record, but for the first time in his nine-year pro career, he was stopped in the first round.
It was a brutal destruction by Quigley, who showed a new ‘bad’ side to his game last night.
“I was feeling like a bad man,” Quigley told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”88″]“I was feeling bad. I was feeling evil. I don’t know what it was in me. I was listening to deep, dark songs and I was thinking deep, dark thoughts about getting into that ring and really hurting the guy.
“I had to control that. I don’t know if it was the frustration of being out of the ring for so long, but there was something in there that I haven’t felt before.”
The fight was over after only 2 minutes and 24 seconds – with Melendez’s men throwing the towel in with their man, who had already been dropped three times, under siege from Quigley.
The Ballybofe man said: “I was very happy with my timing and the picking of my shots. He couldn’t handle the power.
[adrotate group=”76″]“I did my hard work leading into this fight and I made it an easy night for myself. It’s not that it was an easy night – I made it easy. It’s great to get the first round KO because I’m fresh and ready to go again.”
