SEAMUS COLEMAN has revealed the ‘frustration’ behind his passionate goal celebration last night.
Coleman headed home a first-half equaliser for Everton in their 2-1 win over Arsenal at Goodison Park.
Alexis Sánchez had given Arsenal the lead, but Everton won with Coleman and Ashley Williams scoring late in either half. Coleman’s cupped ear celebration, the Killybegs man explained, was in response to criticism that had been levelled at the Toffees – who won for the first time in six games last night.
“You hear the moans and groans of the fans,” Coleman said.

“We understand the fans’ frustrations when the performances haven’t been good enough.
“We’re frustrated as well and we’re doing all that we can to win games. It’s important that we all stick together. When Goodison is rocking like that, it’s really a 12th man and it’s hard for any team coming here.”

Coleman said: “It was very satisfying. The performance was important.
“We had to be able to go home and look ourselves in the mirror, no matter what the result. We had a word together to try and put things right. That was the Everton I know and the Everton of old there.

The win means that Everton go into Monday’s home derby with Liverpool with confidence high, although the Blues will be without captain Phil Jagielka through a suspension.
Coleman said: “It’s important that the next game we play, that we show the same passion. We have to do that in every game. It’s a tough League and if you switch off teams will punish you. We need to make sure that we can go home and look ourselves in the mirror and say: ‘We put in a shift’.”
