LYIT DONEGAL coach Niall McDermott was frustrated after seeing ‘silly mistakes’ cost his team a win on Saturday.
Leading 29-24 at half-time, LYIT Donegal were pegged back and EJ Sligo All-Stars punished the wasteful hosts late in the game.
“We made some silly mistakes at the end of the fourth quarter,” McDermott told Donegal Sport Hub.
“Players get tired at that stage, but we’ve got to be better than that. We have to know what’s going on and some key mistakes cost us.
“A really, really scrappy game, from start to finish. We got a lot of open shots, but they didn’t go in.
“We should have been ahead by 20 at half-time. Normally we’d be scoring high-70s or 80s. I don’t know what the answer is. We’ll look at the video.”
LYIT Donegal are in their first season in the National Basketball League and have performed well, although coach McDermott feels they’ve left too many points behind them.
He said: “We knew the first season would be incredibly tough. It is a steep learning curve, but we are competitive in every game.
“We have to learn something from every game and take it forward to training.
“This is a long-term programme so the first year is about getting games and crowds and then improving.”
