SWILLY ROVERS manager Gerry Crossan has confirmed the addition of Finn Harps midfielder Tony McNamee to his squad.
Struggling Swilly are bottom of the Ulster Senior League and without a win this season, but Crossan hopes that the addition of McNamee, returning to his hometown club, will be just the tonic they need to turn the corner.
“Even in the initial sessions he has taken part in, it’s been obvious that Tony is going to give the starting XI a massive injection of quality,” Crossan said.
“He is a top player who is willing to train and work as hard as any player.
[adrotate group=”88″]“As a coach and a manager, I’m delighted to get the chance to work with a player of his calibre.
“Everyone at the club is delighted to see a former Swilly player move back to his home club after his time playing in the League of Ireland.”
McNamee played in the USL with Swilly before moving to Derry City.
Having graduated to the Derry first-team under Roddy Collins, he briefly moved to Glenavon before being signed by Harps manager Ollie Horgan for the 2015 seasons.
[adrotate group=”80″]In two campaigns at Harps, he made 60 appearances (40 starts and 20 as a sub), scoring four goals.
However, he has now rejoined the Lennonsiders.
Swilly lost 3-0 to Bonagee United on Friday night. McNamee was unable to play in that fixture, but was with the Swilly squad and is set to play a big part when the USL resumes after Christmas.
[adrotate group=”76″]Crossan said: “Tony will be a big part in helping us continue to rejuvenate the Swilly senior set up.
“Although the points total doesn’t show it, I can tell you the boys are going great in training.
“Everyone has the shoulders to the wheel and are totally focused on the job at hand. We know where we want to go and how we plan to get there.
“The addition of Tony has just given the project a massive boost.”
