PERHAPS FITTINGLY, it was Michael Murphy who was named as the inaugural winner of Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh for being Player of Senior Championship.
The Donegal captain (pictured above by Geraldine Diver) helped Glenswilly to a third ever Donegal SFC in October when they defeated Kilcar and last night at the annual Donegal GAA banquet Murphy received the award, which was voted for by the local sports journalists.
[adrotate group=”59″]Séamus Mac Géidigh, of RTÉ Ráidió na Gaeltachta, sadly passed away in July – a much respected voice of, among other things, Gaelic Games. An award has since been set up in his memory.
“From knowing Seamus you’d have met him in the dressing room,” Murphy said. “He was a Donegal fan more than anything. In respect to him I’m going to try and get back and get some Irish.
[adrotate group=”53”]“He was seeped within all the memories I have within Donegal. It feels like one big journey and Seamus was always part of that and will continue to be like that. We will continue now to remember him year after year.”
