TWO YOUNG Donegal footballers have signed for Sligo Rovers, the club announced this morning.
Goalkeeper Shaun Patton and defender Kyle Callan-McFadden have both signed on at The Showgrounds for the 2017 season.
Patton has joined from Derry City while Callan-McFadden joins Sligo after spending a year with Orlando City in America.
Just last week, the 21-year-old centre-back gave an interview to Donegal Sport Hub in which he talked about life at Orlando, including becoming friends with Brazilian legend Kaká.
“Some would be tempted to chuck it in, but I just want to get going again”
Callan-McFadden played 16 times for Orlando City B this year, but he’s now set to come back home and begin a new life in the League of Ireland.
“I did five years at Norwich and a year here in Orlando so I’m not going to pull the pin now and have nothing to show for me,” he said.
“Some would be tempted to chuck it in, but I just want to get going again.
“I want to push on now from this place. I’m 21 and I need to be playing regularly. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench all the time.”
Patton played just once in the 2016 with Derry City, where he was the understudy to Gerard Doherty.
Letterkenny man Patton, a former Bonagee United and Finn Harps player, will aim to provide competition for Micheal Schlingermann who is already signed at Sligo for next season.
