Special Olympics Ireland is calling on the people of Donegal to get ‘Freezin’ for a Reason’ again this December 10th by participating in their ‘coolest’ fundraising event of the year.
Donegal’s Polar Plunge returns to Rathmullan from 1:30pm on December 10. The Polar Plunge is one of Ireland’s most unique annual fundraising events and will take place in seven locations in 2016.

Hopes are high that Rathmullan will again provide the most colourful characters – animal onesies, santa suits and sporting gear of all kinds helped to protect the brave fundraisers from the waters of Lough Swilly in 2015.
Hundreds of people including families, sports clubs, businesses and individuals turned out to plunge into icy cold waters. It all took place under the watchful eye of the RNLI and once again this year, the Polar Plunge in Rathmullan is kindly supported by the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

“The Polar Plunge is a freezing but fun event which we hope the people of Co. Donegal and beyond will get behind,” says Special Olympics Ireland’s Ulster Regional Director, Shaun Cassidy. “This special opportunity allows people to take part in a meaningful initiative during the season of good will. We would encourage everyone to sign up today to help raise funds for our inspirational athletes.”
Special Olympics Ireland provides sporting opportunities for over 9,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across 360 clubs all over Ireland.

Registration costs just €15 with plungers asked to raise an additional €35. The full €50 goes directly to supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities in sport and competitions. Plungers who raise more than €50 will also receive a complimentary Polar Plunge t-shirt.
