A LETTERKENNY INSTITUTE of Technology student has won a European Colleges lightweight title.
Clogan man Ethan Ó Domhnaill defeated Russian Igor Kruschev in this evening’s final at the Aylesbury Hotel in England.
Ó Domhnaill won all three rounds to claim the victory and collect the European Elite lightweight colleges crown.
“Nothing can top it after the work that’s gone in,” Ó Domhnaill told Donegal Sport Hub from England.

“I’m absolutely buzzing about the win. I’d just like to thank Danny my coach, all my family and friends for their support and well wishes and also to LyIT Student Union.
“I’m just over the moon and looking forward to getting back on Irish soil to celebrate.”

Yesterday, in his opening bout, he overcame Frenchman Clement Gyan, claiming a unanimous decision before he overcame England’s Tom Hunt this morning in the semi-final, teeing up this evening’s meeting with Kruschev.
In today’s semi, Ó Domhnaill, a former pupil at Gairmscoil Chú Uladh, also had to overcome the big home crowd in support of Londoner Hunt – and he did just that, boxing superbly in the second and third rounds to edge the win.

“He won it well in the third and just gave it absolutely everything. He wasn’t leaving without the gold and I’m just delighted for him after all the work that he’s put in.”
