MICHAEL BYRNE and Glengad United are used to having games in hand, but the north Inishowen men are content to play catch-up.
Last season, the Crua men came with a late surge and a magnificent finish to the hectic campaign to win the Jackie Crossan Premier Division – their second League crown in succession – and also won the Ulster Junior Cup, the Charlie O’Donnell Cup and the Clubman Shirts League Cup.
Having reached the FAI Junior Cup quarter-finals, Glengad had a busy time of it.
With three games in hand on joint leaders Aileach and Clonmany and just three points to make up, Glengad are looking menacing again, but face the game of catch-up once more.
“We’re used to this now,” midfielder Byrne pointed out after Sunday’s 4-1 win over Aileach at The Crua.
“We’re used to being behind in games and we’re never top at this time of the year.
“That’s our last League game until after Christmas. We have a few Cup games coming up now.
“It’s not ideal. We had four games in a week one time last year, but that was a great positive the way we came through it. If we continue this form we won’t be far away.”
Terence Doherty’s hat-trick fired Glengad to an impressive and emphatic win over what had been an in-form Aileach side.
Byrne said: “It was great. We started off really well. It was imperative to start with a fast tempo and we did that. We’re very happy.
“Aileach always push us to the wire. They took us to a League play-off a couple of years ago and we got a lucky escape against them last year when John Gerard got an injury-time equaliser. “
