TERENCE DOHERTY’S hat-trick swept Glengad United to an impressive win over Aileach that sends the Inishowen League a defiant message from The Crua.

Doherty’s deadly treble gave Shane Byrne’s men a fine win over Aileach, who had enjoyed a good start to the campaign.
Glengad’s quest for a third title on the spin is showing no signs of letting up and Doherty’s hat-trick sent them on their way to a comfortable success here.
Glengad set the tone in the opening minute when Matthew Byrne’s through ball found Doherty and he slotted home in style.
[adrotate group=”80″]Glengad were in the mood and Doherty, after taking a pass from James McKinney, curled just over the Aileach crossbar, before Nigel McMonagle was denied by Darren McMonigle following a break by Stephen Fildara.
McMonigle popped up at the other end for Aileach’s first chance, blasting just wide after evading three tackles on his way through.
Matthew Byrne and Fildara combined to work another opening, with Byrne thumping against the crossbar from 25 yards.
Glengad missed a golden chance to double the lead in the 24th minute, McMonagle just unable to apply the finish after Doherty’s superb cross took out the defence and goalkeeper John Roulstone.

But the champions did get their second on 36 minutes as Doherty, having been sent clear by Shane Canning’s chipped pass, produced a wonderful lobbed effort to beat the advancing Roulstone.
[adrotate group=”76″]Doherty should have had his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, but shot wide after Fildara’s cross was pulled back by McMonagle.
Seven minutes into the second half, they made it 3-0 as Doherty rounded Roulstone, after being sent away by Paddy McDermott’s return ball, to tuck home.
McMonagle and Michael Byrne both had chances but, five minutes from time, Glengad did get a fourth. McKinney left a couple of defenders in his slipstream before teeing up McDermott, whose shot found the net despite the best efforts of Roulstone.
[adrotate group=”38″]Aileach pulled one back when Ronan Coyle, the multiple Ulster Senior League, showed the old magic with a brilliant first touch and volley to the Glengad net.
