BONAGEE UNITED SHONE under the Dry Arch Park floodlights after three late goals gave them a win over Gweedore Celtic that takes them into fourth in the Donegal Youth League.
Bonagee United 3 Gweedore Celtic 0
Daniel Stolarczyk, Paddy Sharpe and Ronan Downey netted as Tony O’Carroll’s team scored a win after finally breaking the Gweedore resistance in a Dry Arch downpour.
Bonagee had a glut of chances to go in front before Stolarczyk finally got the breakthrough with a cracking goal in the 72nd minute.
[adrotate group=”80″]From 25 yards, in a position slightly to the right of the penalty box, Stolarczyk brilliantly found the bottom corner of Joe McGee’s net.
Stolarczyk had gone close several times prior to his belting opener 18 minutes from time.
Matthew de Cook hit the post and McGee saved his rebounded effort, but Bonagee added two more goals in the final seven minutes.
[adrotate group=”85″]Sharpe headed home at the back post from Ryan Moran’s cross on 83 minutes and, three minutes later, Downey finished well after latching onto a loose ball in a packed penalty area.
It seemed for a time that Bonagee could run out of chances in the second half.
Stolarczyk, Adam Hannaway and de Cook all had chances in the first, after Liam Wiggins and Michael Cutlittle tried their luck for Gweedore Celtic.
The visitors had a fine chance in the 20th minute when Wiggins played in Cutliffe. His shot was parried by Bonagee goalkeeper Kyle Gormley. The rebound seemed perfect for Cutliffe to steer home with his left foot, but by the time the player turned onto his right the chance was gone.
[adrotate group=”38″]Sean McNulty was back in the Bonagee XI after sitting out Saturday’s FAI Youth Cup defeat by Letterkenny Rovers due to the tragic death of his sister, Orla, last week.
McNulty clipped the top of the Gweedore crossbar after the break and de Cook clipped another attemnpt narrowly over.
McGee twice saved with his legs from long-range Stolarczyk shots while Ryan Moran and McNulty couldn’t manage to force home from close range in a scramble during a lively opening to the second half.
Bonagee might have had a penalty in those moments, too, but Marty Quinn, the referee, waved play-on when de Cook went down under the challenge of Aidan Doohan.
[adrotate group=”86″]Moran whizzed just wide and there was a feeling that a goal was imminent.
So it proved as Stolarczyk soon put Bonagee in front and they were on the road to collecting three points.
