GREENCASTLE ARE into the national stages of the FAI Junior Cup for the very first time after a win over Keadue today while Glengad United and Drumoghill FC are also into the open rounds.The remaining game of the local phase is not for two weeks when Kildrum Tigers will host Erne Wanderers in St Johnston.

GREENCASTLE progressed to the National Stages of the FAI Junior Cup for the first time in their history today after a dominant display saw them run out 7-1 winners against a well organised Keadue Rovers.
Played in difficult conditions at Chapel Lane, credit must be given to both teams for their efforts in playing free flowing attacking football.
After a nervy start Greencastle settled into their rhythm and took the lead in the 25th minute after a brilliant interchange of passing between the Henry brothers released Christy Hegarty who fired an unstoppable half volley to the bottom corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.
Greencastle increased their lead three minutes later after another great footballing move Shaun Cavanagh squared for Matthew Henry to fire home from 12 yards.
James Henry made it three when his brother played a ball over the top found him in space he rounded the keeper to score in an empty net.
It was four just before half time when Matthew Henry got his second after another slick move Gavin Harkin released him to power home.
Greencastle didn’t let up after the restart and quickly added two more goals, their fifth coming via an OG after good work by Hegarty, their sixth coming from Joe Doherty who fired home from 18 yards after a through ball from Michael Barr.
Keadue to their credit didn’t give up and got a consolation goal with 10 minutes to go.
Greencastle rounded of a good day when Barr himself got on the score sheet when he played a one two with Shaun Downey left him with an open net to score.

IN the early stages the home side dominated possession without really carving out many clear cut opportunities.
After a quarter of an hour Stephen Fildara found Shane Canning on the edge of the box and his firmly struck shot was saved by Joe Coll.
What turned out to be the decisive goal arrived on 35 minutes. A superb ball from Matthew Byrne found Terence Doherty on the left of the box. He cut inside, beat a defender and gave Coll no chance as he drove to the top corner of the net.
The visitors first real chance of note came when a Lee Ferry shot from 18 yards just cleared the crossbar.
Ten minutes into the second half Matthew Byrne accepted a pass from Doherty but his attempt just skimmed the upright.
Glenea came close on the hour mark when Conor McGee’s cross found Aiden Ferry but he headed over from 8 yards when he really should have hit the target.
They threatened again with a Dean Mc Garry attempt hitting a defender and being deflected wide of a post in what was another let off for the home side.
The final action of the game came when aFildara pass found Nigel McMonagle but his shot was claimed by Coll.

DRUMOGHILL advanced to the national stages of the FAI junior Cup after a hard fought away victory over Castlefin.
The hosts started the brighter had the first opportunity when a Ronan Tourish cross found Corrie Lee Bogan who blasted over from close range.
In the 13th the visitors took the lead when a mix up in the home defence and the ball fell to Jay Dee who slotted home.
The hosts kept creating chances but were again caught on the break when Pajo Raffety found Gareth HamIlton who slotted home to double Drumoghill’s advantage.
Castlefin kept pressing and had further chances from Tourish and Bogan but they failed to convert.
[adrotate group=”46″]In the second half the home side had plenty of possession and had various chances through Matthew O;Rourke and Raymond Foy but Paul Mc Cauley in the visitors goals stood firm.
In the latter stages Gérard Mc Granaghan had a chance to increase their lead bit his penalty was saved by Keith Neilis.
