THIS TIME two years ago, Peter Blake couldn’t drive and was scared of heights, but now the Letterkenny man is scaling new heights with his business, Peadar Jim’s Property Maintenance.
Last night, Peadar Jim’s was named as Best Start Up Business at the Letterkenny Chamber Business Awards in the Mount Errigal Hotel.
This afternoon, Peter – pictured above with Terry Tyrrell at last night’s awards – was at Flagpole Park to see Orchard FC stay at the top of the Saturday League with a 2-2 draw against rivals Glencar Celtic.
Blake’s rise in business is a real inspiration. In 2014, he found himself out of work, but his is a tale of persistance.
Last night’s award, coming after he had been highly commended in the same category last year, was just the latest cause for celebration for Peadar Jim’s.
“I’m absolutely thrilled,” he told Donegal Sport Hub in Rathmullan today.
“Last year, I was runner-up. I made a promise that I’d win it. I put my heart and soul into it, have a new shop now and have three men working for me. I’m absolutely delighted.
“I just got fed up lying around. I was true to my vision. I thought if I knocked on ten doors and got one out of every ten it’d work out.
“I just kept at it. I was afraid of heights for a start and I couldn’t drive. I was going around at the start with a ladder on my shoulder, but it has all progressed from there.”
Orchard FC are at the top of the Saturday League ladder and played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with second-placed Glencar this afternoon.
Blake said: “I thought we had it at 2-1, but we gave away a silly penalty. I thought that we were the better team overall, but you always expect a tough game against Glencar.
“The boys always battle hard against us. We have Arranmore next and we have to go there and win.”
