RYAN MCHUGH finished a hectic season on Sunday although with the wheels already in motion for the next, Donegal’s latest All-Star says he doesn’t want a break.
That came less than 48 hours after he became Donegal’s 32nd All-Star winner on Friday night at the GAA/GPA All-Star Awards in Dublin.
Following confirmation that Richard Thornton has succeeded Jack Cooney as Donegal’s team trainer for 2017, plans are already at an advanced stage for next year, with McHugh already in action in the new college season with University of Ulster Jordanstown.
“I don’t need a rest,” McHugh, pictured above by Geraldine Diver, told Donegal Sport Hub.
“I grew up watching everyone play football and it’s what I want to do. I love playing Gaelic football. I’m enjoying my football at the minute and long may that last.
“I love playing football and it’s what I want to do. I grew up wanting to wear a Kilcar jersey and wanting to wear a Donegal jersey so I’m not going to give it up now.”
Kilcar reached their first Donegal SFC final in 23 years in 2016, but lost last month’s final to Glenswilly having been red-hot favourites beforehand.
McHugh said: “It’s been well documented, but it’s been a difficult and hard couple of weeks for Kilcar, but I suppose we have to take the positives.
“It has been a successful year overall for us.
“We only lost one game with our full team – the county final. We have a young team that’s coming. We’ve put a lot of work in at underage level and we’re reaping the rewards.”
