DONEGAL NATIVES Amber Barrett and Roma McLaughlin were to the fore yesterday as Peamount United overcame Cork City 3-1 at Bishopstown yesterday.
Milford’s Barrett scored twice to take her tally of goals to 13 in seven games while Greencastle woman McLaughlin was named as Player of the Match.
The win means that Peamount go to within two points of leaders Shelbourne at the summit of the Women’s National League.
Peamount had to come from behind after Megan Kelleher fired Cork in front in the 25th minute.
Barrett drew Peamount level in the 39th minute as she wonderfully flicked past Eva Badana from a Lisa Casserly cross.
Heather Payne put Peamount ahead in first-half stoppage time.
With McLaughlin dictating affairs from the engine room and Barrett a constant menace in attack, Peamount were on top.
The Donegal pair combined for a chance when McLaughlin’s through ball released Barrett, but Badana saved at point blank range.
Barrett saved the best to last when she beat the ‘keeper from 30 yards for a spectacular goal.
