FIVE DONEGAL BOXERS will be on the canvas for Ulster Senior Championship finals tomorrow night – and there will be two all-Donegal contests.
Indeed, the light-heavyweight final will be an all-Illies Golden Gloves bout as Garbhán Friel meets Cathal Browne.
All-rounder Friel, who has been back in the squared circle over the last year, won an Ulster Intermediate title back in January when he stopped Scott Stevenson from Bangor’s Abbey BC in the second round.
Tomorrow night at the Dockworkers Club in Belfast, Friel – who plays a striker with Ulster Senior League outfit Cockhill Celtic – will meet clubmate Browne in the light-heavyweight final.
[adrotate group=”85″]Last night, Browne overcame Letterkenny ABC’s John McDonagh on a majority decision in the semi-final, with Friel having received a bye into the final.
Illies Golden Gloves’ Martin Lynch will take on Christopher McClean in the middleweight final.
It has been a busy week for Lynch, who defeated Finbarr Kelly (North Down) on Tuesday in a quarter-final before he stopped Cookstown’s Ryan Cleary last night in the semi-final.
[adrotate group=”81″]The heavyweight final will be an all-Donegal bout as David Tsotsoria of Illies Golden Gloves meets Michael McConigley from Letterkenny ABC.
There was no joy last night for St John Bosco’s Jordan Pearson as he was stopped in the opening round by Piaras Casey from St John’s in a lightweight semi-final.
On Tuesday, Dungloe duo Kieran McCole (welterweight) and David Tennyson (middleweight) lost out in quarter-finals to Holy Family’s Aidan Walsh and Emerald’s Conor Doherty respectively.
